ZOË KEATING & APEX DANCE COLLABORATION A STUNNING SUCCESS

A great thanks to all who helped to put the show together. This was one of those dream come true moments for me as an artist. To collaborate with so many amazing people: avante garde cellist Zoë Keating, textile enchantress Lynne Bruning, and the amazing dancers at Apex created an energy that is hard to express. The end result was a show that is sensually stunning. We received an almost immediate standing ovation from a Tuesday night audience that packed Chautauqua auditorium. We also had some amazing artists working behind the scenes to record the process. Dennis St. John at Veria Technologies Inc and Adam Tyler at Spin Echo Industries filmed the process from beginning to end with video clips and a full documentary of the creation of the show which will be coming out soon! Here is a sneak peek filmed at dress rehearsal.

The reviews for the show were glowing and you can read them by clicking on the links below.

Congratulations to Dance Bridge of Boulder for winning the Colorado Dance Award for Service to the Field (for Organizations) on Saturday.

Dance in the News: Cirque du Soleil on Jay Leno!

Cirque du Soleil

We just caught Cirque du Soleil‘s Kooza performance on Jay Leno and it was awesome! “Kooza” is a two-and-a-half traveling show that will feature clowns, crazy acrobats and colorful costumes (nothing new, but nonetheless awesome!) The show will run until Dec. 20.

Cool Dance Blog

I just found a super cool new website called 30 Seconds of Dance that has lots of neat little clips of the different genres out there. Best of all, the clips are in HD!

Check out some of the clips of modern dance, while you’re at it. Very cool.

Dance in the News: Models en pointe!

It’s fashion week in Russia and designer Tatyana Parfyonova stormed the stage with her gorgeous presentation of her new collection, inspired by and dedicated to the Russian Ballet. To enhance the “weightless” attributes of her new line, Parfyonova’s models danced down the catwalk en pointe! Check out the video here.

At Apex, we love Martha Graham! A contemporary dance program in Bloomington, Indiana just got a grant to re stage Graham’s “Panorama” created in 1935. Sandra Kaufmann, a student of Graham’s will coordinate the re staging event, which will include a modern dance film series, lectures and classes centered on Graham and her life’s work.

Dance in the News: Lady Gaga to perform with the Bolshoi Ballet!

Lady Gaga

The oldest performance art in the world will meet the world’s hottest act on November 14th when Lady Gaga teams up with The Bolshoi Ballet and artist Franesco Vezzoli at the Museum of Contemporary Art! On the unusual pairing for the event, artist Vezzoli told Style.com’s Derek Blasberg:

I wanted to mix together the youngest and most daring pop icon, Lady GaGa, with the oldest and most classically trained group of dancers in the world, the Bolshoi Ballet…The output will be flawlessly imperfect and unpredictable, just like any overambitious happening should be.

What do you think about pairing Lady Gaga with one of the oldest ballets in the world?
